After my first trip in Vietnam, I returned to Paris to reinvest what I learned in my work, but the appeal of travel was too strong: last year, I traveled alone for six months: Vietnam again, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Nepal. For this second trip I wanted to understand the way of thinking of other people, and completely assimilate with their culture. I went to live on my own in a village, learned basic vocabulary in every country, and tried to gain a skill from every place I stopped. I was a farmer in Nepal, fisherman in Myanmar, an artist in Vietnam and a boxer in Thailand. I experienced this trip as multiple lives, multiple reincarnations. This trip has been an incredible human experience and cast a new light on my parisian life and my practice of design.
When I travel by myself, I choose all the time a research subject. I particularly enjoy this mode of travel because I find that travelling with a research topic leads to another perception of the country. I was no longer a contemplative but active traveler: I tried to understand a culture, using one of its particularities as an angle of attack. This research had a strong impact on my trajectory and led me to meet people I would otherwise never have encountered.
During this trip I have studied differents topics: buddhism in the Tashiling tibetan monastery, ethnographic design around water use, the drawing language...
The results of this researches were collated in an illustrated books which received the Zellidja foundation Jean Walter prize. You can find excerpts from this books in the article " Zellidja adventure".
